    • OBITUARY

James E. Morgan son of Hiram and Ella Morgan was born November 1st, 1871, died January 18, 1911.  He was 39 years, 2 months and 17 days old.

He was married to Hattie May Totten, May 13, 1894.  To their union were born two children.  One daughter, Ruth, of which is living.

Left to mourn his loss is a wife, daughter, three sisters, one brother, and a host of relatives and friends.

About one year ago James Morgan went to Colorado and took up a homestead, where he lived until suffering with appendicitis he started to St. Joseph, Mo. For an operation, but died on his way there.  After going to Colorado the neighbors there said he took part in church work by helping sing and attending Sunday School regularly as he could.  Some few days after James Morgan was taken sick he called his wife to his bedside and asked her to pray for him, also the neighbors came and prayed for him.  His wife said "Jim don't get excited, you will get all right."  He said, "Hat that is not it.  I have wasted too much of my time in sin already."  On the morning before we left with him to fill his last request which was to take him to the St. Joseph hospital he told his wife everything was right with him and his God.

Funeral services were held by the writer at xNew [sic] Hope Church, where a large concourse of friends gathered to pay their last tribute of respect to one who in his life had won their respect and love.

He was on his way from Colorado to Saint Joseph, Buchanan County, Missouri for medical treatment for appendicitis when he died.  Since there is no death certificate for Missouri, it is possible he was still in Colorado or Kansas when he died.
