Mrs. Johanna Sweeney, widow of Daniel Sweeney, died at the family home at this place on Monday evening at 6:45 o'clock. She was born in Ireland seventy-one years ago and came with her husband to St. Joseph in 1858. For thirty-four years she resided on a farm in the New Hirlingen neighborhood. She is survived by H. M. Sweeney of the fire department, Mrs. E. W. Stout of St. Joseph, Mrs. Kate Sollers of Omaha, Daniel Sweeney of Oklahoma City and Mary, Ellen, Margaret, Joseph and James Sweeney, who reside on the old homestead. Mrs. Sweeney was a warm-hearted, charitable woman, and also a devout Catholic who was ever ready to perform a work of mercy to those in need. She had a very extensive acquaintance and all who knew her regret her demise.
The funeral took place Wednesday from the Church of the Seven Dolors. At 10 o'clock Requiem High Mass was sung by the pastor, Rev. A. C. Bukes, and the body was laid to rest in the parish Cemetery beside the late Daniel Sweeney. A large concourse of people were present to show their respect to the deceased and her family. ETNA.
