John Curtis Carpenter, 90, died February 18, 2011 at his home in St. Joseph. John was born September 5, 1920 on the family farm near Edgerton to Emma Georgia (Winn) and Louis Benjamin Carpenter. He graduated valedictorian from Edgerton High School, 1938. He continued his education at William Jewell College and soon transferred to the University of Kansas, where he attended school for two years before entering the military. John proudly served in the United States Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1946. He was a Staff Sgt., crew chief and mechanical engineer for B-17 and B-29 bombers, stationed at Rattlesnake Bomber Base, Pyote, Texas . . .
