Melvin E. Michaels, St. Jo, died Wednesday, December 11, in a St. Joseph hospital after a brief illness.

Mr. Michaels was born in Corning, Arkansas, and had lived in the Wathena community with his parents. He was a graduate of Wathena high school. Mr. Michaels was a salesman for the Branson Furnace & Appliance Co. in St. Jo. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, a member of the Huffman Memorial Methodist church in St. Jo and the Wathena Lodge No. 64, A.F. & A.M.

Survivors include his wife, Verna; two daughters, Jo Sue and Peggy Lou Michaels, of the hone; one son, David Allen Michaels, St. Jo; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Steven Michaels, Severance; one sister, Mrs. Irene Kent, Highland; one brother, George Michaels, Hiawatha. Mr. Michaels was the son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Kemp of St. Jo, formerly of Wathena.

Services were held Saturday in St Jo, the Rev. Wilber C. Denney officiated. Interment was in Memorial Park cemetery.
