Know all men by their presents that I James Mason of the County of Pettis & State of Missouri do make this my last Will and Testament: After paying all my just debts I give to my beloved wife Mary during her widowhood all my estate both real and personal, to be held by her as her property and at her death or marriage to be equally divided between her and the heirs of my brother Ben Mason, at her death if she dies my widow, it goes to the heirs of Ben Mason. The other half, I want T.W. Gresham and Robert Stevens to manage my estate: this 21 April 1862.

Be it remembered that on the 28th day of April 1862 personally appeared before me, Clerk of the Pettis County County Court, Benjamin F. Smith and Edgar M. Truell the subscribing witnesses to the Within will of James Mason and being by me first duly sworn depose and say that the said James Mason the testator declared in their presence that the said instrument was his last will and testament and published the same as his last will that he the said testator was at the time of publishing his said will of sound mind and more than twenty one years of age and that they the said deponents, attested the said will as witnesses thereto by subscribing their names to the same in the presence of the testator.
