Vernon P. "Vernie" Laipple, 89, passed away Monday, Aug. 10, 2009, at home in Wathena.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, 2009, at Harman-Rohde Funeral Home, Wathena. Visitation is from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, where friends may call after 9 a.m. Wednesday. Burial at Bellemont Cemetery, Wathena. Memorials to Wathena EMS and Troy Ambulance Fund.
Vernon was born Feb. 25, 1920, in Wathena to Walter A. and Rosa (Wiedmer) Laipple.
He served on Gladden School Board, the USD 406 School Board, Elwood-Gladden Drainage District Board, Doniphan Electric Coop Board and Farmers State Bank Board of Directors. He was a member of Zion United Evangelical Church and was a farmer. In 1975, he received the Kansas Banker's Association Soil and Conservation Award.
Vernon married Patricia Jean Leslie on Feb. 23, 1943, in Wathena. She preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Edward, Carl and Wally Laipple, three sisters, Mildred Haupt, Dorothy Harris and Ruth Barrett and two granddaughters.
Survivors include two sons, Jan Laipple and wife, Barb, Wathena, Gary Laipple and wife, Mabel, Wathena, daughter, Patty Housh, Atchison, nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
