WATHENA -- Dorothy K. Stigers Gilpin, 76, Wathena, died Thursday, July 22, 1999, at a Wathena nursing home.
Mrs. Gilpin retired from American Electric in St. Joseph, Mo.
She was born Jan. 19, 1923, at St. Joseph, Mo., the daughter of Willard and Maude Stone Stigers. She was raised in St. Joseph, Mo., and graduated from Pickett High School.
Mrs. Gilpin was a member of the United Methodist Church and the auxiliary to the American Legion, and she was a volunteer at the Wathena Elementary School, all in Wathena. She also was a member of the Moila Needles in St. Joseph, Mo.
She married Edward B. Gilpin on Nov. 19, 1940, at Baltimore, Md. He survives.
Other survivors include five daughters, Margie Twidwell, Topeka, Carol Moddelmog, Fort Collins, Colo., Edna Cherry, Albany, Mo., Joanne McVey, Wathena, and Joyce Bottiger, Lenexa; a brother, Peter Stigers, Topango, Calif.; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great- grandchildren.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at the United Methodist Church in Wathena. Burial will be at Bellemont Cemetery at Wathena. Mrs. Gilpin will lie in state after 9 a.m. today at the Harman-Rohde Funeral Home in Wathena where relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8:30p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Moila Endowment Fund and sent in care of the funeral home.
