Mrs. Fred Pohl Sr., Dies After Few Days' Illness
Mrs. Fred Pohl Sr., died Friday Jan. 17, following a stroke which she suffered the previous Monday. The Rev. J. H. Reynolds conducted the funeral service Sunday afternoon from the Baptist Church. Music was furnished by Mrs. Harry Sollars, Mrs. Elmer Judd and Mrs. Geo. Jones with Marie Adams at the piano. Burial was in Bellemont Cemetery.
Marie Amalie Marguerite Holtzhauser was born in Lineberg, Hanover, Germany, Oct. 20, 1872, and at the time of her death her age was 74 years, two months and 27 days. She came with her parents to this country when she was 10 years of age. She was united in marriage to John Frederick Pohl on Jan. 9, 1893. To this union, eight children were born. One daughter, Selma, died in 1927. Mr. Pohl died in 1926. Mrs. Pohl is survived by four sons, Albert, Fred and Oscar Pohl of Wathena and Chas. Pohl of Pattonsburg, Mo.; three daughters, Mrs. Carl Schautz and Maxine and Clara Pohl, all of St. Joseph; one brother, Chas. Holtzhauser, of Wathena; one sister, Mrs. Anna Hanke, of Wathena; 10 grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
In 1917 she was united with the local Baptist Church and remained a faithful member until called home. She loved her Bible, her church and her Christ. Her home and loved ones were her chief interest.
