1961 Missouri Death Certificates Online

The initial release of the Missouri death certificates by the Missouri State Archives took a long time. The database printouts were mailed to the volunteers, who entered the information in a spreadsheet. The last year that was done this way was completed and online, if I recall correctly, sometime in April of that year. Those were the "good old days."

The past few years, the volunteers have used a web interface to view the certificates and enter the index information into an online form, the result being that, for the past couple of years, the input is done in a matter of days. It goes so fast, by the time some volunteers find out the project is online, it's over.

The database input for 1961 was done, basically, over the course of one weekend. It took just a week or two for the Archives staff to review them and get them online -- by January 31st. This is just awesome!

There are more projects coming up. If you want to help, send an email to Brian and get your name on the list.

We are very fortunate to be researching in a state that makes free online resources a priority.
