Mrs. Ailcy Cook, a notice of whose death appeared in the last issue of this paper, had for many months been quite feeble, but was hopeful of regaining her health until a few weeks prior to her death. It was apparent to the family and friends for some days that it was simply a question of how long the vital spark could be kept alive.
The deceased was fifty-seven years of age on the 27th of May last. At the age of twenty-one she united with the Baptist church, and continued a faithful member until her death. With her husband she removed to this county from Marion county, Illinois, in 1859, where she has mainly resided since, and where she leaves one son and three married daughters to mourn her loss. Soon after the removal to this State, more than twenty years ago, her husband died, leaving her with four little helpless children dependent upon her for their support. Few mothers have shown a more unselfish devotion to their children. She is deserving of the lasting gratitude of the loved ones left behind, a fact of which they are not unmindful, but fully conscious.
